Guns can be called materials of different composition, density and purpose. What they have in common is a characteristic and recognizable way of weaving threads.

What is matting?

Gunny is the name of fabrics made by double or triple weaving of threads, forming a characteristic checkerboard pattern on the surface of the fabric. In Russian, this name comes from the word "matting" - so called and called rough rough fabric, used primarily for household needs. Initially, matting was made from the fibers of a cattail plant (reeds are often confused with it). Then they began to use bast and other natural materials.

Modern matting from the predecessor of matting has retained only the way of weaving. Gunny can be either thick and rough, or rather thin and smooth, loose or dense, natural or synthetic. For the production of guns, they use both natural cotton, linen, wool, silk, viscose, as well as mixtures of natural fibers with synthetic fibers and pure synthetics (in particular, polyester, acrylic, nylon). The threads in the material can be either plain or in different colors. Multicolor, for example, make guns in the style of Chanel. Also, warp and weft matting can be similar in color, but vary by several tones: this emphasizes the texture of the material and the weaving pattern. There is also a gunny with a print.

Gunny: basic properties

Last but not least, the properties of the mat will depend on what fibers it is made of and what density it has.

But there are common properties:

* beautiful and original surface texture;

* high elasticity, low creasing;

* strength;

* durability;

* simplicity in leaving.

At the same time, when working with guns, it is worth remembering that, as a rule, it crumbles very much and therefore requires careful processing and increased allowances for seams. Loose gunny species can easily catch on: the fibers are pulled and clings are formed.

What is sewn from matting?

The two main areas of application for matting are the manufacture of clothing / accessories and home textiles.

Different clothes are sewn from different types of guns: it can be coats, skirts, trousers, cardigans and so on. Natural-looking rude, but not too thick guns are suitable for clothes in eco-style, and guns in the Chanel style are, of course, for the corresponding dresses, suits and jackets. They also make shoes out of guns, sew bags and other accessories.

Dense types of gunnings are often used as a material for upholstering upholstered furniture and sewing covers for it. Also, curtains, tablecloths, napkins, even kitchen towels and bed linen are sewn from matting.
