Previously, lace was exclusively handmade. But today, thanks to modern technology, lace canvases are made on specialized machines.

Of course, handmade lace is still in honor, but for the price it is much more expensive than lace for machine work.
What is a lace cloth? This is a textile product without a woven base, on which the openwork element (pattern) is formed as a result of interweaving of silk, cotton, wool, viscose or synthetic threads. The composition and manufacturer determines the price of this amazing material. Today on sale you can find both a registered lace of famous designers, and lace in the form of strips of different widths for finishing the finished product.
Lace fabric, as a rule, has a small width and a scalloped edge. Therefore, when buying fabric for a specific product, consult the seller about the required footage. Better yet, take a pattern with you and lay out the details on the spot. Then you are definitely not mistaken with the footage. If the lace contains natural fibers (silk, cotton, wool), you need to add a few centimeters for possible shrinkage.

By the way, in order to take care of a lace product, it is not necessary to contact dry cleaning.
Synthetic lace does not shrink, so it can be machine washed in a gentle manner using high-quality modern powders. Traditionally recommend our favorite Ariel.
But all types of natural endure only hand wash in warm water with delicate detergents. At the same time, cotton lace withstands higher temperatures and whitening.
Lace products can only be dried when unfolded. If the lace has a scalloped edge, it must be carefully straightened. You can iron the finished product in the wool / silk position with steam on a soft substrate.
Expert Opinion
The moderator of our site, an engineer-technologist of sewing production, a sewing teacher, Svetlana Khatskevich, also gives our readers valuable recommendations on caring for lace products:
Lace now you can find different things - both synthetic in the democratic price segment, and designer, embroidered with crystals, stones, beads, beads and sequins. It is worth it accordingly. Of course, such lace is not erased, and products from it are stored as a jewel, not even on hangers, but in special trunks, arranged with tissue paper.
Woolen lace is washed only by hand, using liquid detergents in warm water and without twisting. You can add conditioner to the rinse water. The lace is squeezed in a towel, thoroughly straightened and dried on a soft substrate.
Cotton can be machine washed in delicate mode, it can withstand higher temperatures. Thin cotton lace can be slightly starchy. This applies to knitted tablecloths and napkins. But you need to dry it also in a straightened form, you can even pin its protruding edges-festoons with needles to a soft substrate.Iron only on a soft substrate to maintain its texture.
Delicate thin lace is washed either manually or in a special mesh bag in the machine in a delicate mode in slightly warm water. It can turn gray from hot water. It is also impossible to use chlorine bleaches - synthetic lace may turn yellow from them.
Now on sale there are special products for bleaching linen. I tried it - it helps.
All natural lace is better to sew before sewing. The most delicate way is to wrap the cut in a damp sheet and let it rest for a while, then dry and iron on a soft backing.
Lace is most often sewn on a cover, fabric for the lower layer is better to choose natural. Before sewing, it also needs to be patched - wet, dry and iron in a slightly wet state. Otherwise, after washing, the fabric and lace may sit differently.
Natural lace for decoration in the form of a braid before sewing also needs to be decorated, otherwise it will sit down after washing the thing. It is enough to iron it on a soft substrate with an iron and steam.
Nylon lace can prick around the edge. Therefore, it is better not to use it as decoration on the lining side. Or pick up lace with a soft edge.
