One of the main fashion trends in the fall of 2015 was the model of pleated materials.

Pleated (pleated) is a method of processing material in which parallel flat folds are formed with a width of 5 mm to 5 cm. The name "pleated" first appeared in the XVII century.
As a rule, the material is processed in the factory or in special workshops using presses. You can, of course, do this with an iron with a steaming function, but this is a very complex and time-consuming process, so it’s still customary to give the fabric for pleating to specialists.

Pleated fabrics need special care - materials made from natural fibers cannot be washed, they are exclusively suitable for dry cleaning. Synthetic fabrics can be washed by hand.

A bit of history

Pleated clothes were worn in Ancient Egypt, but the designer Mariano Fortuni invented the method of processing pleated material only in 1907. The fabric was folded by hand, treated with a special composition and driven through hot porcelain rollers. The models were called "dolphos", for a long time they were worn only at home, but thanks to Sarah Bernhardt and Isadore Duncan, pleated dresses became part of the everyday wardrobe of women.
The first peak in the popularity of accordion pleats in the 20th century occurred in the 1920s and did not subside until the 1950s.The stars wore pleated long dresses in the movies and in life.

Skirts and dresses of different lengths may be pleated this season. In this case, pleating can be complete or decorate only part of the product. Full pleating makes the image romantic and feminine, and partial gives the models an original and unusual look.
Pleating can be used not only for dresses and skirts, but also for other types of clothing, for example, for blouses.
