Before the start of the school year, at a glance! Check if everything is ready for school.
1. Backpack / bag
Photo: MommoreThis element of school equipment can rightfully be called one of the most important, since the health of your child depends, without exaggeration, on its convenience!
There are several important points that you should pay attention to when choosing a backpack for school:
- An empty backpack should weigh no more than 1 kg, and a completed backpack should not exceed 2 kg for an elementary school student.
- The backpack should be made of dense water-repellent material, ideally with reflective elements.
- The ideal width of the straps should be 5 cm, in any case, at least 4 cm.
- The number of pockets and separation is important, but more important is the presence of a rigid orthopedic back, which repeats the natural bending of the spine and helps the formation of proper posture.
- Both the back and the straps should have a soft lining.
- The straps must be adjustable in length and not stretch.

2. School uniform
Requirements for school uniforms may vary depending on the particular educational institution, so, of course, you need to build on what is accepted in yours. But if the requirements are not strict, you can well sew the form yourself.

4. Pencil case
Many people agree that it is best to choose a soft pencil case, because it will not take up too much space in the backpack and will not knock on the desk again. If you buy a ready-made pencil case, take empty ones without pencils or pens. As a rule, a child will not need much of what is invested in such sets, but you will overpay for that.
But most often it’s really easier and cheaper to sew a pencil case yourself, because it’s simple and not even a very experienced needlewoman will cope with such a task.

3. Office supplies
If high school students usually decide the question with pens and notebooks, then younger children need the help of their parents. Do not overdo it: a few pens, two simple pencils, several colored ones, a ruler, an eraser, a sharpener. This kit should be enough with the head.
amount exercise books may vary, but if you want to save money, choose simple, neutral shades, without superheroes and princesses, which can also distract the child in the classroom.

If you buy ready-made covers for textbooks and notebooks, be sure to measure or even take them with you so as not to make a mistake with the sizes, because now there are so many different options.
If you wish, you can sew the cover on your own, but, again, add, for example, an embroidered inscription with the name of the discipline, so that the child does not waste time figuring out what book he got out of his backpack.

Bookmarks also come in handy, but making them with your own hands is so simple that you can forget about the purchased ones!

For drawing lessons you will need color pencils and paints, and here is also very relevant recommendation not to overdo it. Do not take too large palettes. If your child loves to draw, then another thing, but if this is not his favorite subject, 12 colors will be enough.
Please note: the list of stationery can vary greatly! You may also need: plasticine, compasses, felt-tip pens, colored and plain cardboard, gouache, brushes, scissors, etc.
4. Bag for replaceable shoes
Photo: pinterestBy definition, this part of school equipment will get dirty and worn in every way. You can buy a cheap bag, or you can sew from unnecessary residues of the fabric yourself.

5. Sportswear
The requirements again can vary from school to school, but, as a rule, nothing unusual: sports pants, sometimes leggings, a T-shirt or a T-shirt are allowed. Outdoor activities may also require a sports jacket or sweatshirt.
Many habitually choose cotton fabrics for sportswear, believing that they let air through and absorb moisture much better than synthetics. It used to be, but today high-quality synthetic fabrics, especially for sports, do not resemble Chinese consumer goods, in which you could literally suffocate. Many modern synthetic materials absorb moisture better, dry faster, do not wrinkle, contain antibacterial impregnation, so make a choice consciously, and not focusing on outdated stereotypes.
And with our patterns you can easily sew sportswear with your own hands!
