How often do we refuse what we like, because we are sure that it will not suit us? Today we’ll talk about how to wear bright with joy and pleasure!
Glam radarAttentive readers have probably already guessed in the title a reference to the famous Dale Carnegie book, “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living,” in which he talks about how to get rid of unnecessary worries and anxieties that poison our lives. Of course, today we have not declared such a global topic, but, nevertheless, you would be surprised to know how many women it is really acute for. As part of our vibrant Theme of the month called “Thicken”, we decided to talk about this problem!
Do you know this situation: you choose clothes in a store or look at fabrics. Among what I liked, there are several bright things in saturated colors or even printed. You go to the dressing room or look in the mirror, bringing the tissue to your face, and ... the joy of successful finds begins to disappear gradually. You feel that these things, no matter how beautiful they may be, are too bright for you: your reflection seems to you somehow unconvincingly pale, your face seems to be lost against the background of rich colors of the outfit. You sigh and suddenly clearly imagine how you put this dress (jacket, blouse, top, etc.) on for a walk, and you are pierced by an uncomfortable feeling that you will surely attract much more attention than you are used to.
Then your insidious subconscious begins to whisper to you that for such a dress you have neither bags, nor shoes, and indeed where to wear it. Ultimately, you tell yourself that bright colors are simply not yours. And you choose so familiar, so undemanding, so safe black, beige and, of course, all fifty shades of gray.
Sometimes you even manage to convince yourself that this is a conceptual solution: not uncertainty in the face of bright colors, but a conscious choice of the basic gamut. Answer yourself very honestly which of this is true. And if the first, then this article is for you, because today we will learn to wear bright with joy and pleasure.
Mind games
Any of our choices is determined by a set of attitudes, prejudices and beliefs, laid down by upbringing and life experience. Sometimes (and very often) we subconsciously protect ourselves from what our mind perceives as a way out of the comfort zone, even if it is only a quarter of a step beyond. If for years you wore only black and gray, any bright thing will seem alien and inappropriate on you, because it literally pushes you out of this notorious comfort zone, where you will be looked at and it is possible (but not accurate) to evaluate how much this thing suits you. Uncertainty says, "Please, let's not do this, why invent something if a black straight dress is simple and elegant." Indeed, a black dress is simple and elegant, but only this in no way should prevent you from wearing a bright one if you feel deep down that you would like it to be.
Tip
It seems to you that bright colors do not suit you, just because you convinced yourself of this. And even if you start to wear bright, for some time you will feel uncomfortable and even uncertain - this is normal. Just accept, as a fact, that this is just a game of the subconscious mind that does not want to leave the comfort zone, and move to the desired goal.
Translational motion
A discouragingly beautiful aphorism says: if you want to be happy, just be it. There is a great temptation to use it at any opportunity, for example, if you want to wear bright, just wear it.But, unfortunately, not all of us have the willpower that would allow us to simply take and do. One of the possible and really working ways is to start small and move to big.
Tip
Galant girlSuppose any spy could envy your wardrobe, you professionally merge with the crowd and can follow the target all day without fear that someone will notice you in your gray sweaters and black skirts. Start the change with accessories, especially since against the background of basic shades, bright colors will look especially advantageous.
Glam radarThe perfect recipe: a pencil skirt that suits you, a top or turtleneck + bag in a rich shade that you have wanted to try on for so long. Do not limit yourself to one bag, include a bright scarf or scarf in your accessories, and definitely shoes.

Shein, Kimora Lee SimmonsWhen you get used to your new bright accessories and get a taste, go to the next step: without giving up black, add one bright color to the image. It can be both separate things, and two-tone. The main thing is that after such a smooth preparation it will be much easier for you to decide to put on a bright thing!
Tip
If you worry that your face looks pale against a bright color, just move it farther away from your face. In this regard, the color block works perfectly: let, say, the dress be in a neutral range, but with a bright segment on the hem or in the waist area.

Do not seek excuses
Another insidious psychological trap is the belief that there are reasons that prevent you from wearing bright colors, even if you really want to. For example, many are deeply and unshakably convinced that age is a serious, literally insurmountable obstacle to bright clothes. Allegedly, from a certain age, a woman should wear modest and elegant clothes, and brightness is the prerogative of the young.
One could bring a dozen modern fashionable bloggers who clearly demonstrate that age is not an obstacle to bright style, but we will take this opportunity to once again admire our beautiful model from the April issue of Burda:

Love yourself
It is not clothing that defines a person, but exactly the opposite, but at the same time, clothing greatly affects how we feel and our mood. Numerous shows, such as Fashion Sentence, demonstrate how women flourish when they suddenly manage to get out of the harsh rut of “comfortable” clothes and see themselves in a different light.
Of course, a team of stylists is a great help, but thanks to the Internet, we have all been stylists a bit for a long time already! Get inspired by images from Burda, from fashion magazines, from your favorite blogs, and experiment.
