Nikki is a knitwear with a velvet face, or rather, velvet on a knitted basis. The fabric is silky to the touch, products from it are very pleasant to wear and do not require special care.
Outwardly, Nikki looks like this: on the front side - velvet, and on the inside - a knitted fabric. The composition of this fabric is usually mixed, which ensures durability and easy care.Nikki's pile, like any velvet fabric, lies in one direction. This property of the fabric must be considered whencutting products - all the details of the pattern are placed on the canvas in exactly one direction. The lines of darts, folds and alignments are manually marked with large stitches using a thin needle and thin threads.
Forgrinding Nikki velvet parts use only knitting needles. In this case, the usual straight line is changed to a dense zigzag or special elastic.
Ironing Nikki's velvet is best avoided so as not to iron out the pile. But if necessary, this fabric is ironed only on the wrong side, with light pressure and on a soft surface.
The edges and open sections of the product are marked with a zigzag line on a typewriter or on an overlock.
Despite the fact that the composition of Nikki velvet is mixed, it erase manually or in a washing machine in delicate mode. Spin at the shortest speed. It is best to use modern and high-quality detergents that are guaranteed to be washed off with water even at 30 ° C, are not aggressive, but at the same time they clean all dirt and do not spoil the fabric structure, for example, detergent Ariel.
By the way, so that after washing the allowances do not curl, you can iron a strip of non-woven for knitwear and only then overcast the edges.
Expert Opinion
The moderator of our site, an engineer-technologist of sewing production, a sewing teacher, Svetlana Khatskevich, gives our readers some more valuable recommendations on caring for Nikki velvet:
Nicky is usually made from a blend of cotton and viscose. This makes it very comfortable to wear and allows you to sew things. even little kids.
But such a jersey can shrink after washing, so it’s better to steam it before sewing - iron it with steam. You need to iron Nikki on a soft substrate and folded in half with a pile inward - so the pile will not take.
For cut details, it is better immediately to strengthen armholes and neckline with strips of interlining formbands. This will not allow them to stretch in the process of sewing and socks. When sewing shoulder seams in a line, you need to put cotton braid so that the shoulders do not stretch in the sock.
When sewing, in addition to knitting needles, you can use needles with sharp sharpening - Microtex.
If the product has lightning, then before stitching the slices, it is also better to glue fizelin strips. So lightning easily hangs and will not go in a wave.
If necessary, reinforce the parts with an adhesive pad (e.g. pick-up), and it is better to use a thin cloth pad G785. It is pressed dry and with a little pressure on a soft substrate.
After washing it is better to dry Nikki products in a straightened form, otherwise it will be difficult to remove traces from the rope (cord) of the dryer.
